Greater New Orleans HBA Parade of Homes, June 3, 2017 The Parks of Plaquemines

Details on the volunteer effort to repair a 90-year old man’s Gretna home at the end of June will be forthcoming. Attendees to this year’s Parade of Homes will see newly-built, energy-efficient homes featuring the latest design trends, including smart homes, NanaWalls that lead to a better blending of the inside and outside, quartz countertops, home theaters, outdoor kitchens, shiplap, subway tiles, and more. Visitors can also get ideas for renovating an existing home and get expert advice from the area’s trusted builders. Located at 6632 Pontchartrain Boulevard, the 3,700-square-foot home has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.

One of the standouts of the Parade of Homes is the St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway, a program that is currently in 35 markets across the country. Each year, it raises over $30 million benefitting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Memphis-based research hospital that never charges its patients — who are children — for treatment, travel, housing or food. Home featured at the 2017 Parade of Homes will showcase some of the newest trends in construction, smart homes, and energy efficient technologies.

Valued at $575,000, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will raffle the home to support the nonprofit hospital and its research. Tickets for the raffle—which are $100—can be purchased directly at the home or on the Dream Home’s official website. Of the New Orleans homes, one is located in Uptown; three homes in Lakeview; three homes in Gentilly; and one in a new neighborhood dubbed The Oaks. These planned subdivisions, some of which are gated communities, remain popular with families looking to build their very own dream home, organizers said.

While the market remains competitive in the city, opportunities are available in neighborhoods like St. Bernard Parish’s “The Heights” in Arabi, which features six homes in this year’s parade. These types of neighborhoods are attracting potential homebuyers who seek more living space for growing families, boasting large outdoor spaces. Most importantly, homes with these amenities are just minutes from the heart of New Orleans. The Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans Parade of Homes is a highlight of the organization’s efforts to educate and inform residents of Greater New Orleans. The event showcases recent developments and innovations made in real estate and other topics pertaining to the homebuilding industry. Each year, attendees are be able to step inside newly built, energy-efficient homes featuring the latest design trends.

NEW ORLEANS – The annual Parade of Homes, presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans is the region’s opportunity to tour new homes and see the latest in building techniques and industry trends. “We want to build a St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway house where residents in the local communities desire to live,” said Katie Grace Owens, a regional development representative for ALSAC/St. Jude, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “My favorite aspect of working with our St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway in New Orleans is the impact we are having on the children.” Additionally, she said the neighborhood is an ideal place for families. The builder created an inviting outdoor living space in this quaint porch retreat which is an ideal place to relax and escape from the day's worries.
